    Bjorn Schipper

    Entertainment law and intellectual property

    Bjorn Schipper was nearly born and raised on the dance floor. He is a dedicated and passionate entertainment lawyer since 2001 specialized in intellectual property. Nicknamed “the nightlife lawyer” by the former Night Mayor of Amsterdam. Bjorn wrote his thesis back in the days on the copyright protection of turntable art and argued on behalf of dance promotors before the Supreme Court of the Netherlands in a landmark case on the fair remuneration for playing commercial phonograms by DJs at dance events (and did play a white label Italo track before the Supreme Court while arguing). He is also one of the founders of ‘The Nightlife Clerks’, an informal network of like-minded professionals serving nightlife culture.

    Experienced and sought-after speaker, panelist, lecturer and host.

    Managing positions: member of the supervisory board Foundation Night Mayor of Amsterdam (N8BM), member of the board Vereniging Nederlandse Poppodia en -Festivals (VNPF), member of the board Foundation Motel Mozaïque (MOMO Rotterdam) and member of the board Foundation Hotmamahot. Past: member of the supervisory board Foundation Streetlab.

    Memberships: the International Association of Entertainment Lawyers (IAEL), the Dutch Copyright Society (VvA) and the Dutch Society on Media and Communication Law (VMC).

    Martijn Diepenhorst

    Administrative law and permits

    Forget about Saul. Martijn Diepenhorst is the go-to lawyer in regard to permits needed for an event or festival. Better call Martijn as he is the counsel to a majority of music events and festivals in the Netherlands, from large to upcoming. He also advises the media on permits needed for the on-site recording of television and film productions, the public access of governmental information and subsidies. Martijn is a no-nonsense and hands-on advisor who serves our clients with dedication when it comes to their legal representation in relation to the government.

    Martijn is a lawyer since 2005 with more than 10 years experience on permits and administrative law proceedings for events, festivals and media. Martijn is working with a large network of specialized and trusted advisors on all imaginable aspects relevant for events and festivals and the application of permits related thereto.

    About the role

    At Plus One Legal, a boutique law firm based in A-Lab at the IJ, we're seeking an experienced lawyer with a clear focus on administrative law. You will advise our clients on all legal challenges that come together with the full lifecycle of organizing unique and compelling festivals and events. Together with our clients we make sure their festivals and events take place when the moment is there. Our clients count on strategic thinkers who understand their commercial interest and offer creative solutions. You will help our clients understand and comply with governmental and local regulations and administrative procedures, assist our clients in obtaining licenses, permits and approvals from government agencies and address any legal challenges that may arise. Moreover, you will represent our clients in administrative hearings and in court through appeals or administrative litigation.

    About you

    We want you to be happy while serving our clients. With no exceptions, great festivals led by amazing human beings who thrive on organizing thrilling events for others. That’ll be your client base.

    We are keen to expand our team with one or more experienced lawyers who get excited by working on all legal aspects that come along with organizing festivals and events. It is therefore important that:

    - You gained at least five years or more of relevant experience as an administrative law lawyer.

    - You have substantial knowledge in the field of general administrative law, licensing (vergunningverlening) and environmental law (omgevings- en milieurecht).

    - You have experience in representing clients in and out of court.

    - You are able to translate your sound legal analysis into practical and feasible advice.

    - You are a committed team player who knows to take the stage when the moment is there.

    - You are fluent in Dutch, English is a plus. Just because.
